The match began with a “bang” as, from the kick-off the boys went charging down-field and, within a few minutes
won a line-out 10 metres from the Pontypool line. The Pack had a clean “take” and drove forward with Jack (C)
getting the final touch down.
The boys kept the momentum and pressure and were soon rewarded !! From a scrum on their 22 the Pack won
good and quick ball allowing Jay (B) to pass to Mikey who had the time and space to run through their defence
to score under the posts. with Callum converting. After 20 minutes we were 12 points to nil ahead.
Unfortunately we relaxed allowing them to score . Ahead 12 – 7
We then saw a kick and chase by both Mikey and Jack (C) resulting in Gareth diving over the line conv. by Callum
Half time and ahead 19 – 7
In the second half the opponents showed that they had the “fighting spirit” that we have come to expect from Pontypool
teams and came out ” all guns blazing” !!! Whilst our defence was resolute the constant pressure told with our conceding
a converted try !! 19 – 14
They kept up the pressure but, from a loose pass we managed to win the ball and move upfield winning a penalty
which Mikey converted 22 – 14
BUT, Pontypool were not finished and broke our defence for another converted try . 22 – 21
The final few minutes were frenetic with Pontypool “throwing everything at us ” but our defence held until the whistle !!
