This was the first outing for the team containing the young half of last year’s Youth team and last year’s Under 16. The mixture of inexperience with each other showed in the first ten minutes.
We spent the first 5 minutes attacking but an error sent us back to our 22 when a chip over the top saw their winger catch and run in to score. 5 mins later and a ten mtr. line out saw a catch and charge over the line. I thought that the 3rd try should not have been given (my opinion – no criticism) and the 4th try came after our attacking but one mistake resulted in a 50 metre run to score. At last we struck back when, at a scrum , on their 22 Jay (B) went to the “blind side” / quick passing saw JACK dive over.
Half- time and we we down 5 points to 26 points
The next 20 minutes saw both sides attacking and defending with gusto, but Penygraig had the better finishing and, it must be said, the bounce of the ball. ( 5 – 38 )
BUT that was as good as it got for Penygraig as Llandaff North suddenly came to life and played with vigour and a new belief in their abilities. The final 20 minutes was spent in the Penygraig 22 and they had no answer to our charging runs and pressure play which forced them to commit offences time and again which resulted in further rollicking runs at their line. Our Pack were IMMENSE with THREE tries coming from “tap-penalty” and charge !!! The three scorers were Andrew / Adam / Jack and whilst The forwards took most of the “hits” ( Tito / Sam /Ryan / Adam /Jay (S) — the WHOLE team participated !!
The Coaches now have the “easy job ” of ensuring that the team / squad learn the play for 80 mins and not just the final 20.
WELL DONE LADS! The better team won on the day, but you were not disgraced !! KEEP ON ROCKING !!
