Firstly, I must say that it is a pleasure to be, again, reporting on Matches for the Youth team !!!
Unfortunately this match was lost in the first half when Pencoed made use of the strong wind and were assisted by our poor tackling and ball retention. Too many turnovers and, on many occasions they were able to rip the ball out of our hands. — If you are still on your feet when you are tackled– Hold on to the ball!!
At least we had the last word in the first half when, from a tap-penalty Matthew dived over to score, followed by an ecellent conversion by Nathan against the wind.
Half time we were down 7 pts to 33 pts.
The second half began with our poor tackling allowing them to score, BUT this team does NOT give up and we struck back immediately with good work by the Pack sending TOM over the line and another good conversion by Nathan.
We then began our best period of play with constant pressure but two errors allowed then to score long-distance tries.
However, Have I said this before? THIS TEAM DOES NOT GIVE UP and our further pressure resulted in 3 or 4 tap-penalties with Tom scoring again, and Nathan converting.
Unfortunately, an error in their 22 saw them score a breakaway try!
LADS FORGET this result as you did not deserve to lose by 21 – 62!
This was your first game as a team and it was quite obvious that the Pencoed players have been together for two years. On occasions your showed good skills and movements which will improve with more experience . YOU ARE A GOOD TEAM!
Scorers :- Tries / Matthew / Tom (2) Conversions Nathan (3)
ONWARD AND UPWARD !!!!!
