The Llandaff North U8 Hornets travelled to Pentyrch RFC on Sunday 21st September. The sun was shining and everyone was in good spirits as we took to the field. For the first time this season we were able to split our U7 and U8 sides which saw all players get a good amount of game time.
Playing for the U8’s were Tom Woods, Freddie Blackmore, Seren Lockwood, Owen Lockwood, Jack Walsh, Elliott Barry, Bella Hindle, Sophie Southgate, Halle Pesticcio, Fraser Britton, William Greenaway-Parry, Darragh Healy and Niall Moore.
Game 1 – Fraser Britton was captain for this game and led an energetic and focused side well. Seren continued her try scoring form from last week again scoring a hat-trick of tries. This was matched be an enthusiastic performance by Freddie who also crossed the line three times. In what was clearly an exciting and high scoring game Elliott also got his name on the score sheet for the first time since joining the team, adding another two tries to the team total. Sophie showed consistency with her supportive running skills and increased the Hornets score by one more. Bella impressed the crowd with some excellent supportive play and great running, showing that her confidence is growing in only her second ever game. Jack showed once more what an asset he is in defence, as did the whole team resulting in an end score of Hornets 9 – Pentyrch 5.
Game 2 – William led the team back onto the field for round two, and he clearly inspired the team before hand as the Hornets were yet again off to a flying start. Unsurprisingly Seren made a considerable contribution to the score sheet matching her hat-trick of tries from the first game. In his first game for the Hornets Owen was not going to let his sister be the only Lockwood on the score board and crossed the line twice. Owen also showed exceptional flare in defence, and gained the title of Top Tagger for the day. Niall also continued his strong performance in defence as well as offering some lovely supportive play. Tom showed great running and made valuable yards for the Hornets throughout both matches. In her first ever game of tag rugby Halle picked things up quickly and offered great support to the team. Darragh continues to demonstrate that he’s a real team player supporting his team mates both in attack and defence. End result Hornets 6 – Pentyrch 2.
Player of the Day was awarded to Owen Lockwood.
Big thank you to all the support that was shown by friends and family.
