Gachie’s Gunslingers
And so after two unsatisfactory weeks for completely contrasting reasons at last a contest of real verve and spirit. The delightfully amicable Gachie rode into town with his bandits form ‘the Goch’ looking for a re-match after our 8-7 win at their place earlier in the year.
I could, nay I will use an excuse or two. Pre match we lost 6 forwards to the school 7’s event organised by the Cathedral school. It robbed us of valuable muscle and when we lost Dylan Bignell to injury 5mins in I reckoned we were done for. But a fighting spirit we showed and a great tussle in the mud and slippery conditions it was.
Thrust and counter thrust. We finally yielded but at only 5-0 at the break all was to play for.
We came back with spirit. Ewan dancing passed Gachie’s boys to set up skipper Robert to score. Gilfach muscle took them ahead again but when Ben scored from a training ground line busting run under the sticks we were 12-10 ahead with only a few minutes on the clock. Even Gachie put his guns away temporarily, impressed he was! But his boys showed commendable fortitude and banged down our door once more. How we needed our missing forwards today. A final play try in the corner put an unfair slant on the scoreboard for this was as even a contest as is always the way with us and Gachie’s Gunslingers from the Goch!
