Coming off a back of a win last week North Ladies were looking to keep the streak alive by getting another big W. Visiting team Whitland were also looking for the win so today’s game promised to be a tough one.
North kicked off and made their intentions clear from the start. Both teams carried hard and looked to play an open game. The first 20mins passed with neither team being able to capitalise on fairly even possession.
North found themselves with a penalty in the 22 and went for the posts to get the first points on the board however the kick struck the upright and the score remained 0-0
It was Whitland who got the first points of the game no 10 Jody Evans released flanker Nia Elin who charged over the line 7-0 to the visitors.
The home side were not about to be undone. A quick tap penalty from Amy Day caught Whitland on the back foot and she was able to cross the white wash making it 7-5 to the visitors. The remainder of the first half had both teams trying to get more points on the board with no luck.
HT – 7-5 to Whitland
The second half started much the same as the first with both teams looking to get control of the game. A scrum in midfield gave No 8 Sioned Harris the opportunity to pick and go. With quick turn of pace and a good hand off she broke for the line to extend Whitland’s lead. Jodie Evans added the extras bringing the score to 14-5 to the visitors.
North were not to be undone. Some great work from the front row saw Hooker Beth Kenure turn over the ball, releasing prop Nia Jones who broke the line, off loading to our other Prop Debbie Harper who charged into the 22. A quick ruck from the north ladies allowed centre Meg O’Sullivan freedom to cross the line, Becky Newton added the extras. 14-12 to the visitors.
With everything still to play for both teams were fighting hard. North full back Emily Kitchin was put under pressure repeatedly through the game by the boot of Jodie Evans and she coped with her usual calm.
But it was Whitland that had the final say through winger Tash Roberts who crossed in the corner. Jodie Evans added the extras making the final score 21-12 to Whitland.
There is a break in the league now giving North plenty of time to iron out any kinks in the game plan.
