As we stepped out of the cars we quickly realised that winter had arrived with earnest, a number of the parents that had viewed the younger teams playing, plus Nick who didn’t receive the text looked like they were in early stages of hyperthermia. The team had trained well on Friday, which was surprising after the Christmas break and this was taken into the game.
Playing into a biting wind, an early ruck presented Owen with a chance to demonstrate his strength; Owen ploughed through the middle presenting Euan with quick ball and this move was expertly completed by Chelsea – TRY. With the momentum definitely with Llandaf North it seemed they could do no wrong, quick line out ball to Chelsea and 20 yards later the ball was passed to Ioan for the second try. It was now time to defend but when you have the pace of Sam it can quickly turn in to attack, Sam ran out of his own half and was stopped by a fantastic tackle but he was not isolated and several phases later Sam was at hand to score what he had started, surely this should have been filmed for Scrum V. Llantwit Major fought back, with two quick tries taking the score into half time to 3 -2 (tries).
Second half, and straight from the whistle the team regained their dominance, excellent running and hands from Anuerin led to a try for Big Ted (Sion) who was still moaning the kit laundry was not up to his high standards! Again Llantwit Major pressured our line and were rewarded with a try. Time to bring on the new recruits, Dylan aka The Tackle and quick hands Griff. With a move from the training field the entire back line passed the ball with perfection providing Sam with enough space to run in for another try, further tries followed Joe, Owen, which was well deserved for his work at the ruck and Chelsea.
This was an excellent game and the final from both teams in cold conditions.
Final Score 8-3
