This match was a typical tussle between Canton and The North, where “no quarter was asked or given”.
Despite an awkward wind both teams endeavoured to play running Rugby and it was some 20 minutes before the deadlock was broken by Chris Burke with an excellent penalty.
Our Pack then fought hard, gradually working their way upfield when, despite several tackles, within 10 metres of the line Jamie showed his strength and burst through to reach for the line to score.
Unfortunately, we then committed the Cardinal Sin of turning our backs on the ball. Canton took a quick tap-penalty to score.
BUT, this team does not give up, and we came roaring back via a line-out close to their line with Jamie again showing his strength to dive over the line.
The first half was marred virtually on the stroke of half-time with a brawl and a player from each team being sent to the Sin-Bin.
Half Time 5 – 13 up
We experienced some sloppy play and gifted them a try! From a Penalty they kicked for touch with our jumping high to stop the ball entering touch and pushing it backwards, unfortunatelty we were too slow and one of their players ran in to touch down! We then gave away another penalty and the scores were level 13 – 13
BUT this team does not give up (Have I said that before?) and our Pack again went charging up-field winning a scrum on their 22 and centre of the pitch.
The Pack won good clean ball which passed to Burkie to effect a match winning Drop-Goal with the final movement of the game.
Canton 2nds 13-16 Llandaff North 2nds.
Try Jamie (2) / Penalty & Drop Goal ” Burkie ”
