Belated Match Report – U9’s v Cricc 28.09.14

First game for the U9’s and it was great to see all the effort made at training in the previous weeks paying off. Cricc arrived with enough players for two sides so two games were played back to back with only one sub available for our lot!

Lining up for Llandaff North were Stephen, Alistair, Sebastian, Morgan, Spencer, Morgan, James Sprud, James Condon, Jamie, Caleb & Sam Freebury. Alistair was Captain for the day and did a great job of leading from the front.

Game 1 – Right from the off Cricc had no answer to our defensive intensity, they went through what felt like 20 phases, making little ground before we forced an error. The start set the tone for the day and our vocal and organised defensive effort resulted in plenty of opportunities to open up with some dangerous running once we won the ball back. Great in field tackling by Jamie, both Morgan’s, Stephen and Spencer was backed up by some sterling defensive work out wide by Sebastian, James Condon and Caleb, a number of great touch line tackles winning us an instant turnover. In attack, everyone put in a shift and it was great to see some direct running backed up by some good passing out wide as the game wore on. Four tries scored by James Sprudd, Caleb, Sam and Alistair, with all showing elements of great evasive running, agility and strength. A solitary Cricc score in reply was all we deserved for the attitude shown from the off. End score Llandaff North 20 – Cricc 5 / Llandaff North 4 – Cricc 1.

Game 2 – Cricc rung the changes but, despite us having to keep rolling our solitary sub in an effort to stop everyone getting cramp, the organisation in defence was still evident and a tiring Cricc had no answer to our growing confidence in attack and we scored 3 tries without reply. James Sprudd & Caleb each got their second of the day followed by a determined run by Evan leading to a final score that rounded of another good performance. End Score Llandaff North 15 – Cricc 0 / Llandaff North 3 – Cricc 0

Player of the day was James Sprudd, just reward for some great tackles and generally causing havoc in the Cricc midfield!

Everyone can feel very proud about the attitude shown for our first outing. We will obviously face bigger challenges as the season progresses but it was a great start and bodes well for forthcoming games. Thanks also to all family and friends for the vocal support.
