Llandaff North u16 v Rhiwbina u16

By Alan John

This match followed the pattern of previous games between “The North” and “The Squirrels”, in as much as it was end to end with no quarter asked or given! The first 20 minutes were scoreless but the overall play by both teams was excellent and whilst our Pack shared the spoils in the scrum, Rhiwbina were superior at the breakdown (Some work on turnovers ??)

THEN a single lapse in concentration on our 22 allowed them a simple run in and score under the posts. But, this team does not give in and HIT BACK immediately !!! They tried to clear their line with a kick but this was caught by Nathan who then made a scintillating run and “drawing his man to commit to a tackle” before passing to Callum to score.

Within minutes Dylan made a break and passed to Josh who charged through three players to score.( An Excellent Conversion by Nathan ) On the stroke of half-time they attacked and were through our defence but a try-saving tackle by Jay (B) retained our lead 12-7 at half-time.

The “Squirrels” came out fighting at the start of the second half and it took another try-saving tackle by Evan to keep them from our line. Poor tackling by the backs and excellent overlapping by the opponents left Jay(B) having to mark three players. This took the score to 12 – 12

Fortunately we scored the best try when “Twinkletoes” ( aka Callum ) ran 50 metres to score (most of the run was straight ??!!??)

They came back hard but our defence was resolute and held firm until the final whistle

Final Score: Llandaff North u16 19-12 Rhiwbina u16
Scorers :- Tries :- Callum (2) / Josh Conversion :- Nathan (2)

HIGHLIGHTS – The runs by Callum and Nathan whose conversions were first rate and, surprisingly, the two TRY-SAVING Tackles by Jay & Evan as these were as important as the tries scored.
