North Ladies welcomed Croesyceiliog to Hailey Park for the 1st round of the cup competition. With the weather changeable all week, the girls were happy to find the pitch in a playable condition. Both teams were out for the win and this match promised to be a good one.
From the Kick off both teams were looking to attack and it only took a few minutes to put the first points on the board. North forwards had some well worked pick and goes and back row Amy Thomas touched down in the corner.
From the restart North kept the pressure on, some good running and game management from Becky Newton and Elin Huxtable allowed Prop Amy Thomas to cross the line for the second try. As the first half pushed forward Elin Huxtable crossed the white wash twice showing her footballing skills with a superb chip and chase.
The North line out was working well and giving great platform for the backs to attack from. Another break from Huxtable put Croesy on the back foot and a well timed pass released Winger Rachel Carter to cross the white wash.
With Half time fast approaching North were once again working through the phases in the hope to get one final score before the half, this time it came through the hands of No 9 Becky Newton who, with a beautiful show and go, broke the line and touched down under the sticks.
The second half started much as the first ended with North having most of the possession. With the forwards setting a good platform for the backs to attack, there were 2 further trys from Becky Newton, a first try for North by Centre Megan O’Sullivan and another before the final whistle for Huxtable. The game ended 67-0 to the North girls.
North Ladies return to Hailey Park next week, 13th December, for their final game before Christmas against Whitland Ladies
