With Cardiff parks called off the decision was made to move the game to Dinas Powys. The team were desperate for game after weeks of training and drills but when we arrived the lure of the local roller coaster was too much for ‘Crusher’, having subsequently fallen off the roller coaster there was an initial concern of would he be fit to play.
Leaving the park towards the field the focus then became ‘how far could they slide’ with the inch of surface water across the park but Matt soon had them focused on the job in hand. The team has had a torrid season but with recent player position stability and new signings a new air of optimism was felt by all.
You can’t under estimate the conditions and how difficult it was for both teams but both teams went out to play some great attacking rugby. LNRFC struck first with a great forward effort, I believe the try scorer was the roller coaster crusher but it was almost impossible to tell as all the forwards returned to the half way with huge grins. Long parts of the game were between the 10 yard lines, with both teams putting in some great tackles. It was LNRFC that edged the play and managed to score two more tries ahead of Halftime.
It was much the same in the second half and I’m not going to name the try scorers because this is the best team performance I have witnessed to date, everyone contributed to the result including our newbies Bayley, Shahryar and Traie, special mention to Dylan who playing on the wing stopped the biggest player on the park- much respect. The game finished with a try by Dinas Powys and they deserved that! The Ref then called both teams together and commented how well they had played in the conditions and how well they responded to his decisions, nice touch Ref!
Final Score 33 – 5
