” The Miserable Ruckers”
Never have we been so dominant in the set piece scrum and yet come out second best. Not for a while will we meet an opposition so diminutive in stature. Our boys for once comparatively towered over their hosts. We huffed and puffed, and made hard yards, picked and drove from our dominant scrum yet our efforts were draining in comparison to the dancing elves in Welsh speaking green and red.
Taking a 3 try to 1 first half lead that amounted to an 8 point half time cushion hid a nightmare to come. Hard yards we continued to make yet time and again our rucking and ball retention were non existant and possession was lost. Theiving hands in CRICC colours couldn’t believe their luck. It was a sweet shop left unattended and their openside flanker left the scene with pockets stuffed, he and his mates with a 33 to 5 point second half turnaround.
Wasted effort and exhausted we were, backs under used, forwards run to a standstill in singular uncoordinated effort. Lesson learnt? Lesson dealt by the speed and weaving runs of Theo and his boys. Points on the board at last but 0 from 3 we are. Our U11 heroics now seem light years away, just a distant memory, for our fleet of foot U11’s are currently just the ‘Miserable Ruckers’ of a struggling U12’s.
