Llandaff North Hornets U9s v Llanishen (A) – 12.10.14

Team: Evan Jones (captain), Caleb Richards, James Condon, James Sprudd, Alistair Hamblin, Jamie Michael-Boika, Hollie Baker, Toby Powell, Stephen Rooney-Dyke, Sam Freebury, Spencer Morgan, Morgan Edwards, Sebastian Anstead, James George, Alex Holland, Luke Caple.

Well, if we were proud last week, that isn’t a patch on what we felt this Sunday! What an incredible morning.

The sunny conditions at Llanishen led to a worrying start with the Reds touching down three times within the opening minutes. Our guys just weren’t awake & were shocked at the organisation shown by our established opponents. A few tears were shed, firm words directed & they pulled their socks up… & boy did they show us what they can do?

Luke was first to put points on the board on his debut with Caleb returning to the pitch after a high tackle with a killer look on his face to run around a number of players & increase the North tally. The tries followed swiftly from then on. In the remainder of the game we conceded only 2 with consistently strong tackles going in from newbie Luke “I don’t like rugby” Caple, more great speed by Sam F, skilful dodging from Evan, nimble running around players by Caleb & strong ball-carrying from James S. Talking of Spruddy – the breakaway try at the end polished things off perfectly!

Player of the day was deservedly awarded to new boy Luke, for his tackling as much as for his great running & ball-carrying. Special mentions also go to Alex & James G who made impressive debuts, Sebastian & Alistair for again showing great consistency.

Final score: Llanishen 5 – Llandaff North 8 (tries: Luke, Evan, Alistair, James S, Caleb (2), Sam F (2).

A massive well done to all players & parents for their fantastic support. Bring on the next one!
