An Auld Acquaintance We Can’t Forget 25/01/2015

A cock up on the admin front at Rumney RFC saw them double book us! Not for the first time this year we travelled only to find our hosts had invited someone else to the party. Well, we had no choice but to muck in and we’d never met Nantyffyllon before. And a spikey old bunch they were. While our boys warmed up and went through their moves the normally street wise boys from CF3 were taught a thing or two. Not enough to beat their hosts 32-5, the Nantyffyllon 13’s went for bit of senior style brawling too!

When we took on the Ospreys we faired a little better and Louis in particular came very close to scoring before the board had even moved. That might have made things interesting but in truth Nantyffyllon were too strong for us both and I noticed their 13 game winning streak was no fluke. It mattered not. We’d come across town for the scalp of Rumney and saved some gritty rugby for them. It remained scoreless for over half the game before our resolute defence finally gave way.

Chris almost equalised with a fine run, felled only by a fantastic last gasp tap tackle and Rumney then were left to close the game out. 12-0 was no disgrace and although Rumney are not the force of old we were unable to break the 5 year curse they have on us.
